Show the terms and record consent before the first charge

Before a subscription or trial starts, show the price, interval, first charge date and how to cancel beside the pay button. Store proof of consent.

How to do it

US federal law (ROSCA) requires clear terms and express informed consent before a recurring charge. California's automatic renewal law, amended from 1 July 2025, requires express affirmative consent. It also requires proof kept for 3 years, or one year after the contract ends if that is longer. Visa's rules ask for the same terms at signup for trials and introductory offers. Store the terms version shown, the time, the account and the control used. Send a confirmation email with the terms and a cancel link.

How to check

An end-to-end test signs up and finds the price, interval, first charge date and cancel instructions on the page and in the email. The database holds a consent row with the terms version.
