Let people cancel online as easily as they signed up
Offer cancellation online, with no more steps than signing up took, and confirm it at once by email with the date access ends.
How to do it
Put a cancel button on the billing page, at most two clicks after signing in. Allow one save offer with a clear way to decline it. Never require a call or a chat. In the US, an appeals court struck down the FTC's 2024 click-to-cancel rule in July 2025. The FTC started a new rulemaking on negative option offers in 2026, and no new rule is in force. ROSCA and state laws still apply, such as California's online cancellation rule from July 2025. Germany has required a cancel button labelled "Verträge hier kündigen" since July 2022. The UK's subscription rules under the DMCC Act are planned for 2027, so check the start date before then.
How to check
A browser test signs in and cancels in no more clicks than the signup took. A confirmation email with the end date arrives, and the subscription is set to end at the period end.
