Invoices and records Required
Put every required field on the invoice
Build invoices from one template that holds every field the law requires where you are registered, and test that each field is present.
How to do it
Article 226 of the EU VAT Directive lists the fields, shown in the example below. Ask your accountant for local additions. Show amounts in the currency charged. Some countries also need the VAT in their own currency.
Example
Issue date 2026-10-20
Invoice number (sequential) 2026-EB-000412
Seller name, address and VAT number Example Bakery AB, Storgatan 1, Stockholm, SE556677889901
Buyer name and address Example GmbH, Hauptstrasse 2, Berlin
Buyer VAT number (reverse charge, EU) DE123456789
What was sold and how many Team plan, 5 seats, October 2026
Date of supply, if not the issue date 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-31
Net amount per VAT rate, unit price 5 x 129.50 SEK = 647.50 SEK
VAT rate and VAT amount 0%, 0.00 SEK
Exemption or reverse charge note Reverse charge
How to check
A unit test renders one invoice for each case, which are domestic, EU business, EU consumer and outside the EU. It asserts that every required field is present and not empty.
