Give each video a watch page

Give every video you want found its own indexable page, where the video is the main thing. Add VideoObject structured data with name, description, thumbnailUrl and uploadDate, and a stable thumbnail.

How to do it

Google finds videos in <video>, <embed>, <iframe> and <object> elements, on pages it has indexed. The video must not hide behind other elements. Give each video one unique thumbnail address that never changes, in a format such as JPEG, PNG or WebP, at least 60 by 30 pixels. Write a unique name and description for each. Add contentUrl pointing at the file itself, or embedUrl for the player. Mark chapters with Clip, or with SeekToAction when the address takes a time. Validate the markup as Validate rich results before every release says, and serve the file as Send video that starts fast and costs little says.

Examples

HTML example

<script type="application/ld+json">
{ "@context": "https://schema.org", "@type": "VideoObject", "name": "How to oil an oak floor",
  "description": "A floor fitter oils a grey oak floor in a kitchen, step by step.",
  "thumbnailUrl": "https://example.com/video/oil-oak-floor.jpg", "uploadDate": "2026-09-14T10:00:00+02:00",
  "contentUrl": "https://example.com/video/oil-oak-floor.mp4", "duration": "PT6M30S" }
</script>

How to check

Every watch page answers 200 without noindex and has VideoObject JSON-LD with name, description, thumbnailUrl and uploadDate. Each thumbnail answers 200 with an image type and is at least 60 by 30 pixels.
