Measure impressions in AI answers

Read AI answer impressions next to clicks every month. Use Search Console's generative AI report for Google and Bing Webmaster Tools for Copilot, and never judge a page on clicks alone.

How to do it

Google counts traffic from AI Overviews and AI Mode in the Performance report under the Web search type. Its separate generative AI report counts how often links to your pages showed in those answers, and has covered every site since 31 August 2026. Bing notes that content may appear as impressions, citations or grounding references without a click. So fewer clicks do not always mean less visibility. Add the AI impressions to the monthly export in Export search data for every page each month.

How to check

Each monthly export holds an AI impressions column for every page, from the generative AI report. It also holds a Bing column for each page Bing reports.
