Refund in the currency the customer paid
Refund the same amount in the same currency the customer paid. Carry any exchange difference yourself.
How to do it
A customer who paid 12 EUR expects 12 EUR back, whatever the rate did since. Refund through the original charge, as Refund through the provider with a key and a reason says, and the provider keeps the currency. Never refund a converted amount in your own currency. The difference in your settlement currency goes to the exchange gain or loss line from Record the rate and settled amount of every charge.
How to check
A test charges 1,200 EUR minor units, changes the test exchange rate, then refunds in full. The refund is 1,200 EUR minor units, and the ledger has one exchange difference row.
