Scope and ownership Required
Name a representative when you serve the EU from outside
If you have no EU office but offer goods or services to people in the EU, appoint an EU representative in writing. GDPR Article 27 requires it.
How to do it
The duty has a narrow exception for occasional, low-risk processing without special categories. A UK business with EU customers, or a US one, usually needs a representative. AI Act Articles 22 and 54 add one more. A provider outside the EU of a high-risk AI system or a general-purpose AI model needs an authorised representative. Name each one in the privacy policy and in the register.
How to check
The facts file lists no EU office and an EU market. Then the register check fails without an eu_representative entry with name and address. The privacy policy must contain that name.
