Rewrite titles that are seen but rarely clicked

Each month, list pages in the top ten with at least 1,000 impressions in 28 days. Rewrite the title and description of those whose click-through rate is under half the site's median for their position.

How to do it

A page that shows often but gets few clicks already ranks. Its title or snippet does not convince. Search the main query, signed out, and read your result next to the others. Does the title answer the query, or does it name your product? Does a rewritten title from the search engine hide your point? Rewrite as Write titles search engines keep and Write the meta description for the click say. Change one page's title at a time and log it, so the effect can be read.

Examples

JavaScript example

const median = values => values.toSorted((a, b) => a - b)[Math.floor(values.length / 2)];
const ctrAt = Map.groupBy(pageRows, row => Math.round(row.position));
const lowCtr = pageRows.filter(row => row.position <= 10 && row.impressions >= 1000
  && row.ctr < median(ctrAt.get(Math.round(row.position)).map(other => other.ctr)) / 2);

Python example

from collections import defaultdict
from statistics import median

ctr_at = defaultdict(list)
for row in page_rows:
    ctr_at[round(row["position"])].append(row["ctr"])
low_ctr = [row for row in page_rows if row["position"] <= 10 and row["impressions"] >= 1000
           and row["ctr"] < median(ctr_at[round(row["position"])]) / 2]

How to check

The monthly job prints the list of low click-through pages. Each listed page has a logged title change, or a dated note on why it stays, within 30 days.
