Know which accessibility law applies

Find out which accessibility laws cover the site. Meet WCAG 2.2 AA, which includes the WCAG 2.1 AA level most laws point to.

How to do it

In the EU, the European Accessibility Act covers many online shops, banking and booking services from 28 June 2025. Its standard, EN 301 549, uses WCAG 2.1 AA. In the US, courts apply the ADA to websites, and a 2024 rule points state and local government sites to WCAG 2.1 AA. Publish an accessibility statement with known gaps and a contact.

How to check

The site has an accessibility statement with a date, the WCAG level it meets, its known gaps and a way to report problems.
