Avoid
Avoid paging tools that are shutting down
Do not start on Opsgenie or the open source Grafana OnCall, and move off them before they stop.
How to do it
Atlassian stopped selling Opsgenie on 4 June 2025. It ends support on 5 April 2027, and deletes data that has not been moved by then. The open source Grafana OnCall repository is archived and read-only on GitHub, with no changes since March 2026. Both fail the test of a release in the last six months, or will soon. Export schedules and escalation rules now. Rebuild them as code in the new tool, as in Use PagerDuty for paging and keep schedules as code.
Examples
Using these examples: they show one way to follow this rule. Keep the behaviour and the check, not the syntax. Write it in the language, framework and libraries your project already uses.
Shell example
# Find leftover Opsgenie and OnCall settings before you move
grep -rnE "opsgenie|grafana_oncall" --include="*.tf" --include="*.yml" --include="*.yaml" .
Python example
import pathlib
import re
ENDING = re.compile(r"opsgenie|grafana_oncall", re.IGNORECASE)
leftovers = [p for p in pathlib.Path(".").rglob("*") if p.suffix in {".tf", ".yml", ".yaml"} and ENDING.search(p.read_text())]
