AI Act Required
Find out if a feature is high-risk
Check every AI feature against the high-risk areas in AI Act Annex III and the products in Annex I. Plan the duties before their start dates.
How to do it
Annex III covers biometrics, critical infrastructure, education, and hiring or managing workers. It covers credit scoring and life or health insurance pricing. Law enforcement, migration, justice and elections complete it. Regulation (EU) 2026/1744 moved the start of these duties from 2 August 2026 to 2 December 2027. For AI in products under Annex I, such as medical devices or machinery, the date is 2 August 2028. Providers then need risk management, data governance, technical documentation, logging, human oversight, a conformity assessment and registration. Deployers must follow the instructions, assign human oversight and keep logs for at least six months. An Annex III system may escape the class under Article 6(3), but only with a written assessment, and never when it profiles people.
How to check
Every register entry has an annex_iii_area answer. An entry with an area has either a dated Article 6(3) assessment or a plan whose start date appears in the compliance calendar.
