Accessibility Required
Say where each link goes
Write link text that says where the link goes. Never write "click here" or "read more". This meets WCAG criterion 2.4.4 (A).
How to do it
Name the destination in the link ("Pricing for teams"). If the label must be short, add context with visually hidden text.
Example
<a href="/pricing/teams">Pricing for teams</a>
<a href="/guides/backups">Read more<span class="visually-hidden"> about backups</span></a>
.visually-hidden {
position: absolute; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;
clip-path: inset(50%); white-space: nowrap;
}
How to check
Lighthouse link-text passes. A test fails on any link whose accessible name is only "click here", "here", "more" or "read more".
Measured
On a reference site, renaming two footer links "Click here" and "Read more" took Lighthouse SEO from 92 to 85.
