Write the restore runbook

Write the exact steps to rebuild the service from nothing, including where the backups and keys are.

How to do it

Cover a new server, the settings, the secrets, the database restore, DNS and a final check. Keep the runbook somewhere you can reach when the main systems are down. Update it after every restore test.

How to check

A person who did not write the runbook restores staging from it, without asking anyone for help.
