LOC-1Recommended
Give each language its own path
On sites with several languages, give each language one clear address pattern, such as /en/ and /sv/, and keep it stable. A one-language site needs no prefix.
How to do it
Use a language prefix (/en/, /sv/), a subdomain or separate country domains. Google supports all three. Use one pattern for all pages, and never use URL parameters such as ?lang=sv for languages. Then join the versions as Link language versions together says.
Examples
Plain text example
https://example.com/en/pricing
https://example.com/sv/pricing
https://example.com/de/pricing
How to check
A test lists every page. Each address carries exactly one known language in the chosen pattern, and no address has a lang query parameter.
