Show product safety information in the buyer's language

When you sell physical products to EU consumers online, show each product's warnings and safety information in the language its country sets.

How to do it

Article 19 of the General Product Safety Regulation lists what an online offer must show. It names the manufacturer, the EU responsible person, a product picture and identifier, and any warning or safety information. That information must be in a language consumers there can easily understand, as each Member State decides. Keep the safety text per product and language, as Store translated content per record and language says. Hide the product in a country until its text exists in that country's language. Other product laws are in Product and sector laws.

Examples

JavaScript example

const missing = products.flatMap(product =>
  product.markets
    .filter(country => product.hasWarnings && !product.safetyText[REQUIRED_LANGUAGE[country]])
    .map(country => `${product.sku} in ${country}`));
if (missing.length) throw new Error(`Safety text missing: ${missing.join(', ')}`);

Python example

missing = [
    f"{product.sku} in {country}"
    for product in products if product.has_warnings
    for country in product.markets
    if REQUIRED_LANGUAGE[country] not in product.safety_text
]
assert not missing, f"Safety text missing: {missing}"

How to check

A test lists every product offered in each EU country with warnings. Each has safety text in that country's required language on its product page, or is not offered there.
