Agent Wranglers

Own the domain and DNS in your own accounts

Register the domain and host its DNS in accounts the business owns. Keep them apart from the hosting platform and from any agency or contractor.

How to do it

When a host or an agency holds the domain, a dispute or a closed account takes the site and its email with it. Do not buy the domain as part of a hosting plan. Point records at the platform instead of moving the whole zone to its name servers. Its servers would then control mail records too. Give at least two people from the business admin rights, each with two-factor login. Give an agency its own user that you can remove. Renewal and transfer lock are in Keep the domain name yours. Records live in code as Keep DNS records in code says.

How to check

The registrar and DNS accounts each list at least two admins with addresses on the business's own domain. The name servers of the domain belong to the DNS provider named in the exit plan.
