DOC-27Required
Make product instructions accessible as the law requires
When the European Accessibility Act covers your product or service, publish its instructions and help as accessible web pages. Give every image and video a text alternative.
How to do it
Annex I of Directive (EU) 2019/882 asks for instructions in more than one sensory channel, in text that can be turned into other formats. It also asks for an alternative to all non-text content and adjustable spacing. Publish help as HTML pages, and offer a PDF only as an extra copy, tagged as PDF/UA. Describe each screenshot in alt text, caption each video and write each command as text. Support services must also answer questions about the product's accessibility. Whether the Act covers you is decided in Meet the European Accessibility Act as a legal duty. Test the pages as Make docs pages pass the same accessibility checks as the product says.
How to check
Every manual and help article has an HTML page that answers 200. The accessibility test of the docs site finds zero violations, every image has alt text and every video has a captions track.
