Test with disabled people
Before a new product or a redesign launches, watch at least 3 people who use assistive technology every day try its critical journeys. Fix what blocks them before launch.
How to do it
Automated scans and your own screen reader runs find the rule breaks. They miss what confuses someone who uses these tools all day. Recruit people with different needs, such as a screen reader user, a magnifier user and a voice control user, and pay them for their time. Let them use their own device and settings. Give tasks, not instructions, and note where each person gets stuck. The automated base stays in Check accessibility in every build.
How to check
The research log for each launch lists at least 3 sessions with assistive technology users, dated before launch. Every blocking finding has a ticket that is closed or listed as a known gap.
