# Describe a federated server

- Rule: If you run a federated server, such as a Mastodon-style social server, publish `/.well-known/nodeinfo`.
- How: Serve a small JSON file that links to the full NodeInfo document.
- Check: `curl -s https://example.com/.well-known/nodeinfo` returns the links. The linked document answers 200 with `software.name` and `usage`.
