# Say where each link goes

By Erik Bergstedt, Agent Wranglers. Updated 2026-10-20.

- Level: Required
- Chapter: [Accessibility](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/website/accessibility)
- Rule: Write link text that says where the link goes. Never write "click here" or "read more". This meets WCAG criterion 2.4.4 (A).
- How: Name the destination in the link ("Pricing for teams"). If the label must be short, add context with visually hidden text.
- Check: Lighthouse `link-text` passes. A test fails on any link whose accessible name is only "click here", "here", "more" or "read more".
- Measured: On a reference site, renaming two footer links "Click here" and "Read more" took Lighthouse SEO from 92 to 85.

Example:

```html
<a href="/pricing/teams">Pricing for teams</a>
<a href="/guides/backups">Read more<span class="visually-hidden"> about backups</span></a>
```

```css
.visually-hidden {
  position: absolute; width: 1px; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;
  clip-path: inset(50%); white-space: nowrap;
}
```
