# Avoid Create React App

By [Agent Wranglers](https://agentwranglers.se/authors/agent-wranglers). Updated 2026-10-21.

For AI agents: [llms.txt](https://agentwranglers.se/llms.txt) is a short guide that sends you to the rules your problem needs, and [rules.json](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/stack/rules.json) holds every rule of this playbook as JSON.

- Level: Avoid
- Chapter: [Web frameworks](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/stack/web-frameworks)
- Rule: Do not start or keep an app on Create React App, the react-scripts package.
- How: The React team deprecated it on 14 February 2025. Its last release, 5.0.1, was in April 2022, so it fails the six-month test by years. It still gets about 1.4 million weekly downloads, and agents still suggest it from old training data. Move to Vite, or to a framework such as Next.js, as the React team advises. It fails [Pick software that still ships releases](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/stack/how-to-choose/still-maintained).

## Examples

**Using these examples:** they show one way to follow this rule. Keep the behaviour and the check, not the syntax. Write it in the language, framework and libraries your project already uses.

### Shell example

```sh
npm uninstall react-scripts
npm install --save-dev vite @vitejs/plugin-react
```

### JSON example

```json
{ "scripts": { "dev": "vite", "build": "vite build", "preview": "vite preview" } }
```
