# Remind people before a trial or renewal charges

- Rule: When a trial or introductory price of over 7 days ends, send a reminder 7 days before. Give the amount, date and a cancel link. Send one 15 to 45 days before each yearly renewal too.
- How: Visa's rules for trials and introductory offers, in force since April 2020, ask for this reminder at least 7 days before the first charge. For a trial of 7 days or less, put the same details in the signup confirmation. Confirm the current wording with your acquirer, since Visa publishes these rules to members only. California requires a reminder 15 to 45 days before a yearly renewal, with the renewal interval, the amount and how to cancel. Schedule reminders from the period end the provider reports. Log each send with the subscription and period, so a rerun never sends twice.
- Check: Use a test clock to move a 14-day trial to 7 days before its end. One reminder goes out with the amount, date and cancel link. Running the job again sends nothing. A yearly subscription moved to 30 days before renewal gets one reminder.
