# Keep payment records for the legal period

By Erik Bergstedt, Agent Wranglers. Updated 2026-10-20.

- Level: Required
- Chapter: [Invoices and records](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/payments/invoices-and-records)
- Rule: Keep invoices, credit notes and ledger rows for the longest bookkeeping period of the countries you report in, and keep them out of account deletion.
- How: Bookkeeping laws set the period, such as 7 years in Sweden and 10 years in France. Germany shortened the period for invoices and receipts from 10 to 8 years in 2025. GDPR Article 17(3)(b) lets you keep data that a legal duty requires, even after an erasure request. Delete the rest of the personal data and keep the bookkeeping, as in [retention jobs](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/data/personal-data/retention-jobs).
- Check: Delete a test account with paid orders. The invoices and ledger rows remain, and the profile data is gone. The retention job removes records older than the period.
