# Keep saved cards up to date

By Erik Bergstedt, Agent Wranglers. Updated 2026-10-20.

- Level: Recommended
- Chapter: [Failed payments and dunning](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/payments/failed-payments-and-dunning)
- Rule: Turn on network tokens and the card account updater at your provider, so renewals keep working after a bank reissues a card.
- How: Visa, Mastercard and others send new card numbers and expiry dates to providers that ask for them. Network tokens follow a reissued card on their own. Most providers switch these on per account. Store only the provider's payment method ID, so updates need no change on your side. If the updater has no new date, email the customer 30 days before a saved card expires.
- Check: The provider's settings show the account updater and network tokens switched on. A monthly job lists cards that expire next month with no update, and each of those customers got an email.
