# Keep users informed

- Level: Required

- Rule: Tell users what is broken, what they can do and when the next update comes, on a status page hosted apart from the service.
- How: Use a status page on a separate host, such as a hosted status service. Post the first update within 30 minutes, and then at the promised times. Write plainly about the effect, not the cause.
- Check: Stop the main site on staging. The status page still loads. During the last incident, every update arrived by the promised time.
