# Watch what the service costs

By Erik Bergstedt, Agent Wranglers. Updated 2026-10-20.

- Level: Recommended
- Chapter: [Capacity and cost](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/operations/capacity-and-cost)
- Rule: Track the cost of each service every month, set budget alerts, and look into any jump.
- How: Tag cloud resources by service and environment. Turn on the provider's budget alerts. Include the cost of logs, traffic and third-party APIs, which often grow fastest. See also [tag every resource with its owner](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/infrastructure/cost-and-ownership/required-tags) and [give every account a budget with alerts](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/infrastructure/cost-and-ownership/budgets-for-every-account).
- Check: A budget alert exists for every account, and a monthly report shows cost per service.
