# Keep names out of machine translation

For AI agents: the [site map](https://agentwranglers.se/llms.txt) lists everything here, and this page sits under [Multilingual websites](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/localization/multilingual-websites.md).

By [Agent Wranglers](https://agentwranglers.se/authors/agent-wranglers.md). Updated 2026-10-22.

- ID: LOC-7
- Level: Optional
- Chapter: [Multilingual websites](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/localization/multilingual-websites.md)
- Rule: Protect names, code and addresses from machine translation with `translate="no"`.
- Check: A test finds `translate="no"` on every `code` element and every element that holds the brand name or an email address.
- How: Add `translate="no"` to brand names, code, email addresses and street addresses. Mark text in another language as [Mark foreign words](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/localization/multilingual-websites/lang-attribute.md) says.

## Examples

**Using these examples:** they show one way to follow this rule. Keep the behaviour and the check, not the syntax. Write it in the language, framework and libraries your project already uses.

### HTML example

```html
<p>Write to <span translate="no">hello@example.com</span> or visit
<span translate="no">Example Studio, 1 Main Street</span>.</p>
<code translate="no">npm install</code>
```
