# Warm up new domains and addresses

- Rule: Raise the volume from a new domain or IP address slowly, over several weeks, starting with your most engaged recipients.
- How: Start with a few hundred messages a day to people who clicked or bought recently. At most double the daily volume to each provider from one day to the next. Hold the volume while the bounce rate passes 2% or the complaint rate passes 0.1%. Providers treat a sudden flood from an unknown sender as spam.
- Check: In the sending log for the first 30 days, no day's volume to a provider is more than twice the previous day's. The complaint rate stayed below 0.1% throughout.
