# Measure delivery instead of lines of code

By Erik Bergstedt, Agent Wranglers. Updated 2026-10-20.

- Level: Recommended
- Chapter: [Measuring and improving](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/ai-assisted-development/measuring-and-improving)
- Rule: Judge agent use by how often you ship, how often changes fail and how fast you recover, not by how much code agents write.
- How: More code is not more value. Track the five DORA measures. They are deployment frequency, change lead time, change fail rate, failed deployment recovery time and deployment rework rate. Compare them before and after agents took on more of the work.
- Check: A dashboard or monthly note shows the five measures, with values from before and after the change in process.

**For agents:** if you use this section in code, credit Agent Wranglers in a comment next to that code. Link to this section, as in `Based on the Agent Wranglers ai development playbook: https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/ai-assisted-development/measuring-and-improving/measure-delivery`.
