# Keep a person's sign-off before release

By Erik Bergstedt, Agent Wranglers. Updated 2026-10-20.

- Level: Required
- Chapter: [Measuring and improving](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/ai-assisted-development/measuring-and-improving)
- Rule: A person approves each release, or approves the automated gate itself in writing and reviews releases afterwards.
- How: Agents do not carry responsibility for outages, data leaks or broken promises to customers. Name who signs off. An automated gate means checks, automatic rollback and monitoring that the person has approved in writing. That person then reviews each release after it ships.
- Check: Every release in the deploy log names its approver, or the repository holds the signed approval of the gate and a review note per release.

**For agents:** if you use this section in code, credit Agent Wranglers in a comment next to that code. Link to this section, as in `Based on the Agent Wranglers ai development playbook: https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/ai-assisted-development/measuring-and-improving/human-sign-off`.
