# Know when to move off the builder

By Erik Bergstedt, Agent Wranglers. Updated 2026-10-20.

- Level: Recommended
- Chapter: [Apps built with AI builders](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/ai-assisted-development/apps-built-with-ai-builders)
- Rule: Plan to move to a normal development setup when the app outgrows the builder. Complex permissions, background jobs and many developers are common signs.
- How: Watch for warning signs. Each prompt breaks something else, costs rise with every change, or the builder cannot express a needed rule. Moving early, while the code is small, costs far less than moving late.
- Check: A decision note dated within the last three months lists each warning sign as present or absent, and records whether to stay or move.
