# Accept the EU Digital Identity Wallet where strong ID is needed

For AI agents: the [site map](https://agentwranglers.se/llms.txt) lists everything here, and this page sits under [Bank and government ID](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/accounts/bank-and-government-id.md).

- ID: ACC-72
- Level: Optional
- Chapter: [Bank and government ID](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/accounts/bank-and-government-id.md)
- Rule: If your service must identify people strongly, plan to accept the EU Digital Identity Wallet. Record in the decision log whether Article 5f of the eIDAS rules makes it a duty for you.
- Check: The decision log has an entry on Article 5f with the date checked. If the duty applies, the compliance calendar holds the acceptance date, and a test signs in with a test wallet in the provider's test setup.
- Applies when: The project has user accounts, or has users in the EU.
- How: Regulation (EU) 2024/1183 requires every member state to offer at least one wallet by the end of 2026. Article 5f then sets a deadline 36 months after the implementing acts took force on 24 December 2024, so about December 2027. By then, private services that law or contract obliges to use strong authentication must accept the wallet when a user asks. Banking, transport, energy, health, telecoms and education are among the listed areas. Very large online platforms must accept it too. Micro and small enterprises are exempt. You register as a relying party in the member state where you are established. The wallet shares only the details you ask for, such as "over 18". Ask for the fewest, as [Ask only for what the first task needs](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/accounts/sign-up/minimal-sign-up.md) says. Most teams will reach the wallet through their identity provider or an identity broker. Map each wallet identity to your own user ID, as [Keep your own user ID](https://agentwranglers.se/playbook/accounts/sign-in-methods/own-user-id.md) says.
